Mandy-Rae Cruickshank-Krack
7 x Freediving World Record Holder, Freediver, Instructor, Actress, Conservationist
Born in Canada in 1974, Mandy-Rae has been active in water related activities since before she could walk. Her competitive edge started at the age of nine when she started competing as a synchronized swimmer. At the age of 15, Mandy-Rae decided to get a little deeper and became a certified Scuba diver. After high school she decided to make diving her full-time passion and became a PADI Instructor and then worked her way up to the highest level in recreational diving, PADI Course Director.
It wasn’t until 2000 that Mandy-Rae was introduced to Freediving. It was an instant attraction. What better way to experience the sea and challenge yourself at the same time. Within 18-months Mandy-Rae would earn her first World Record. She then went l on to capture thirteen Canadian National records and seven World records. As a six-time member of Team Canada she has been there to help the women’s team to two first place finishes and three third place finishes in AIDA International competitions.
This sport has given her the chance to be part of some amazing projects. In 2006, she worked with New York Magician David Blaine on his ABC special Drowned Alive and then trained and assisted him with a World Record Oxygen Breath-hold live on the Oprah show in 2008. She also had the great fortune of becoming part of the Black Ops team that helped to uncover the slaughter of dolphins in Japan for the 2010 Academy Award winning documentary The Cove. She has worked with Go Pro for the Hero3 camera launch and is one of the ladies in their Whale Fantasia video.
Mandy-Rae was inducted into the Women Divers Hall of Fame in 2009 and has a permanent exhibit in the Ontario Science Centre. She has done speaking engagements and intro to Freediving seminars for the ROM, RedBull, B2Ten, and many other organisations.
In 2010 Mandy-Rae and Kirk welcomed a new member to their water tribe, with their daughter Kaila. Kaila shares their love of the water.
